Whitby is a small town on the North East coast of England at the heart of the North York Moors National Park, giving opportunities for walking, cycling and sailing.

Writers such as Bram Stoker, Lewis Carroll and Kate Atkinson have lived here. The television series "Heartbeat" is filmed here, as well as recent movies "Captain Jack", "Harry Potter", and "Possession".

Every August the Whitby Regatta is held, including sailing and rowing races, air displays and fireworks. During Whitby Folk Week the town is filled with dancers and concerts. The Captain Cook museum reminds us of that famous sailor who reached Australia. Local food includes kippers (smoked herrings), seafood, cakes and scones in the teashops, and of course fish and chips.
